I came to Beijing this time to stay at Jianguo Hotel Beijing purely for the reputation of the old brand. I thought that hotels that have been open for over forty years would inevitably have outdated room facilities, but when I opened the door, I realized that every object here had the words "comfortable to stay" engraved into the details.
I booked a standard garden view twin room, and my first impression upon entering was that the space was not cramped at all. The 28 square meter area was not filled with redundant decorations, and the beige walls were paired with light wood furniture. There was no glaring cold white light, and the warm atmosphere made people relax as soon as they entered. The storage desk at the entrance is designed with great care, eliminating the need to squat on the ground and stuff things into a suitcase. Just in the door, carry on bags, umbrellas, and access cards can be easily placed on the countertop, without any panic caused by a lack of space to store items.
What surprised me the most was the configuration of the sleeping area. Two 1.2-meter bedding items are not the kind of cheap items that are so thin and fluffy. The fluffy cotton quilt provides just the right support when pressed against the body, preventing it from slipping into a ball when falling asleep in the middle of the night. I have prepared two types of pillows, soft and hard. As someone who is accustomed to high pillows, I chose buckwheat pillows. My friends in the same industry love soft pillows, and the fluffiness of down pillows just fits the cervical spine. There are independent control panels installed on both sides of the bed head, so you don't have to reach out and touch the switch for a long time. The lighting is divided into three levels of brightness, with the darkest level turned on at night without shaking your eyes. The USB and Type-C dual interface sockets are directly installed on both sides of the bed head, without pulling the charging cable around half of the bed.
The small area by the window is the finishing touch of the entire room. There is a spacious solid wood desk placed by the window, with a height that is just right for a laptop. Even if you spend a long time editing materials, you won't feel sore in your arms. There is a hidden Ethernet cable interface on the side of the desk, as well as an independent small desk lamp. The light is warm white light that is not glaring, and there is no reflection or glare when working at night. There is a soft bag sofa next to the desk, and you can see the garden downstairs from it. The scenery of rose flowers and fountain can be seen through the window frame, like a living landscape painting.
The details of the bathroom area are more attentive. The independent shower room has anti slip grooves on the ground, so there is no need to worry about slipping when it gets wet. The water flow of the top spray and handheld showerhead is surprisingly stable, unlike many old hotels that experience sudden changes in temperature. The water output is just right, and after a day of wandering on the street and taking a hot shower, most of it will dissipate. The counter top of the washstand is wide enough to spread all the skin care products. The mirror has been treated with anti fog treatment. After washing and wiping your face, you don't have to wait for half a day for the mirror to see clearly. The free toiletries are light plant fragrance, not pungent industrial essence flavor.
I used to think that the facilities in old hotels couldn't keep up with the current demand, but this stay experience completely shattered my prejudice.
